Motorelektrik, an EP

I released some more music today, an EP of five songs, including three new tracks and two kinda sorta remixes/remasters/reduxes of songs from last year’s Breakage album.

There are some more details on Tumblr, but I’ll try to say something different here, just for the exercise.

When I released my first album last year, the culmination of a three-month sabbatical and lots of learning and gear shopping ahead of time, I made so much effort to not be self-deprecating about it, but there were a couple songs that just plan sounded broken, like something went wrong in the final panicked applications of compression and whatnot, as I speedran through YouTube tutorials and failed to realllllllly listen to the tracks on anything but good quality headphones, where my brain, being quite familiar with the songs by then, filled in the suspicious dropouts in the sound with all the built-up gestalt of months of work.

This is probably a metaphor for something.

Editing ourselves is a privilege, I guess?

So included with the new songs on today’s EP are two new versions of songs called Road and Anesthesia.

Road is literally about a road trip, and figuratively about revisiting the past, and also not all the details are true, but a lot of the details are true, but not the ones you’re worried about. Probably.

Anesthesia is also about things.

But more importantly, you can hear what I intended these songs to be much more clearly now; if they’re broken, it’s because I wrote broken songs, not because I turned the wrong dial and didn’t buy good speakers until recently.
