FWIW. Know what would really be, like, an update? Native support for frigging web standards. That would be downright, uh, normal.
Definite stuff on hasLayout. In the case I was working on, my mistake was setting a width on a list item. Set the width on the div and the margins on the ul and/or li to avoid all sorts of IE oddity.

A quick note about revising the Holly Hack for IE7.
It looks like IE7 might shorten the list of css hacks by a mile, but I’m wondering if we’re all going to have to learn some new way to make IE6 see the hacks, but not 7. Not that I’ve learned those hacks yet.
